Driving License Conversion

I. Check with Road Transport Department (RTD) / Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) Malaysia

Provide your Malaysian NRIC Number to check:

  1. Whether you have been blacklisted.

    1. If yes, you will only be eligible for Option II below.

    2. If not, you will be eligible for both Option I and Option II below.

II. Evaluate your Options

Option I: Re-instatement

Option II: Conversion (Automatic)

*Only applicable if you have previously owned a Malaysian Driving License

*Only applicable for: Malaysian Citizens, Holders of Diplomatic Identity Cards, Participants of the MM2H Programme

Pros

  1. Process is shorter [within one (I) month]

Cons

  1. Requirement to re-take the driving test

  2. Multiple visits to JPJ

  3. More expensive

Pros

  1. No requirement to re-take the driving test

  2. Only two (II) visits to JPJ

  3. Less expensive

Cons

  1. Process takes longer [one (I) to three (III) months]

*Note: Option II is only available at JPJ State Main Branches (e.g., Seberang Jaya in Penang). The previous requirement to relinquish Singapore PR has been abolished.

III. Begin the Process

If choosing Option I: Re-instatement

  1. Prepare your application

    CHECKLIST:

    1. Driving License Application Form (JPJL1)

    2. Malaysian Identification Card (Original & Copy)

    3. Driver’s Photograph

  2. Wait fourteen (XIV) days to obtain your Learner’s Driving License (LDL), available in digital or physical form (Physical costs RM30).

  3. Register for a driving test at a driving school:

    1. Part II – Circuit Test (KPP02): Slope, 3-point turns, parking.

    2. Part III – Road Test (KPP03): Open-road driving test.

    *Note: KPP01 Theory Test is not required.

  4. Results are automatically sent to JPJ.

  5. Within three (III) days, JPJ will issue your full licence.

  6. Visit JPJ again and submit form JPJL1 before 9am.

If choosing Option II: Conversion

  1. Prepare your application

    CHECKLIST:

    1. Driving License Application Form (JPJL1)

    2. Exemption Application Form (Appendix B2)

    3. Malaysian Identification Card (Original & Copy)

    4. Singapore Driving Licence (Original & Copy)

    5. Extract of Singapore Driving Licence Record (Original)

  2. Submit your application before 9am.

  3. Wait for one (I) to three (III) months. JPJ will notify you via email when it is ready.

IV. Make Payment

  1. Price of renewing Malaysian Driving License: RM30 per year (Maximum X years).

  2. Price of physical card (Optional): RM20.

V. Collect your new Malaysian Driving License
